Did I hear you ask who lives in this Creative Corner of the World?

Well, since you asked here's a bit more info about me. I live at the foot of the beautiful Blue Mountains, in Emu Plains west of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia (affectionately known as 'Oz' or 'The Land Down-Under'). I'm in my late-60's, have been married for 45+ years to THE most wonderful man, Darryl and I'm the PROUDEST MUM of 2 grown children. My DS, Simon, is a photographer for a local group of community newspapers and has taken some amazing shots. My DD, Anya, is a High School administrator and teacher who is committed to educating our youth of today. I have 3 unique and beautiful granddaughters; Piper, born in 2010, Ivy, born in 2013 & Emerson, born in 2014. I love them all equally and delight in the fact that they have personalities as different as their hair colours. Piper is blonde, Ivy is brunette and Emmie has the most amazing red hair. Personally, I was a Teacher/Assistant Principal in the field of Special Education for over 16 years until I retired in June 2004.

I've been involved in art and craft activities for most of my life and I became a 'stampaholic' and 'technique junkie' to 'save my sanity' after an injury in 2003. I began by making cards and slowly, but surely, became addicted to ATCs, hand-made books, altered books, boxes, bottles, tins, jigsaw puzzles and anything else that would stand still long enough to be altered. My pets learned early on to keep on the move to avoid becoming a part of my artistic experiences. I love texture and colour and I'm gradually stepping outside my comfort zone to experiment and explore other media and styles. Recently I've become a Copic Marker addict. I've gone from a definite "No! I will not be adding Copics to my colouring media." to finally amassing a full set of Sketch Markers. Please don't ask how many are in a set and how much the set cost me; I'm far too embarrassed to admit to that information.

I mentioned an injury in 2003, I don't want to go into details but as a result of continued aggressive behaviour from my students and, on the odd occasion from their parents, I suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Depression, Anxiety and mild Agoraphobia. I manage to live reasonably okay but constantly find myself walking a tight-rope of emotions that may hinder when and how well I interact socially. I will never give up or give in to these issues. No matter how many 'bad' days I experience, I will always get up to face the next, but some days I just might need to rest a bit more that others. Rest assured, I will continue to fight each and every day to be the best "ME" that I can be.

Cheers
Chris in Oz
